oh so simple free video tools

Compress, trim, convert and caption videos, right in your browser. Free, no watermark, and your videos never leave your device.

Your privacy-first video toolkit

Your browser does the work.

Most free video tools work the same way: you choose a file, it goes to a server, the server does the work, and the result comes back. In between, your video sits on someone else's machine.

Oh So Video works differently. Every tool runs inside your browser, on your own device's hardware. Nothing is sent anywhere: not the video, not a frame of it, not its sound.

Your videos. Your business.

That matters more than it sounds, because of what people put in videos. Holidays and family. Client work, product demos and testimonials. Interviews, consultations and anything else confidential. School projects. Video tools for schools and universities work the same way.

Nothing uploaded means nothing to leak, no copy left on a server you don't control, and no waiting for a slow connection before the work can start.

Different tools. Same privacy.

It's the same for every tool here, whether you compress video, trim video, convert a MOV to MP4, remove the audio or add captions.

Free means free

"Free" usually comes with conditions: free until five minutes, free with a watermark across the middle, or free once you've made an account and accepted the terms.

Not here. No account. No watermark on anything you export. No trial that runs out, and no premium tier to upgrade to: the tool works the same on your first video as on your five hundredth.

The limits that do exist are your device's rather than ours. Compress, Convert MOV to MP4 and the batch pages take a video of any size, because it's read a piece at a time. Trim and Remove audio take up to 2 GB, since the copy is written beside the original. Captions takes any size too, but caps length: three hours on a computer, an hour on a phone. Big videos are quickest on a computer.

Questions about Oh So Video

Is Oh So Video really free?

Yes. No account, no trial, no watermark and no hidden limit: every tool is free to use as often as you like. There's no premium tier and no subscription.

Does my video get uploaded to your servers?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your device. There are no servers that receive your videos: the work happens on your own hardware, the way a desktop app would, without the install.

What video formats does it support?

MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV, from phones, cameras and screen recorders, including iPhone HEVC and Apple ProRes. Trim has to play the video to show you where to cut, so a ProRes file goes through Convert MOV to MP4 first.

Is there a file size limit?

It depends on the tool. Compress, Convert MOV to MP4, the batch pages and Captions take a video of any size, because your video is read a piece at a time. Trim and Remove audio take up to 2 GB, since the copy is written beside the original on your device. Captions caps length instead: three hours on a computer, an hour on a phone, since the transcribing happens on your device. Big videos are quickest on a computer.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes, on an iPhone or an Android phone in an up-to-date browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. There's no app to install. Keep the page open while it works, because phones pause pages in the background.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Open the page, drop your video on it, and go. Nothing to download, nothing to configure, and no extension or plug-in.

Why is it free?

Because it costs almost nothing to run. The work happens on your device rather than on servers we'd have to pay for, so there's no bill to pass on. There's no investor money behind it, nothing harvested and no ads: visits are counted without cookies, and that's all.

Who built this?

Tom Limb, founder and CEO of Videvo and formerly Head of Video at Magnific. He built Oh So Video because the free tools he could find either took your footage to a server or stamped a watermark on the result.

About Oh So Video

Oh So Video is a collection of simple video tools, built by me, Tom Limb. Previously, I ran a stock video company called Videvo (acquired by Magnific), where we gave away free stock video footage to millions of users around the world, all with the aim of helping people make better videos without spending large amounts of money to do so. Now, my aim is to do this with video tools.

But, there is an additional element to what I'm trying to do with Oh So Video. More than ever, online privacy is under threat, with websites and AI companies collecting huge amounts of data about their users to sell to third parties or to train models. With Oh So Video, not only will you find free video tools that are simple to use, but your privacy is never compromised. There is nothing to upload, all your content remains on your device because the tools work locally on your browser. We do not track user session data, which is why you don't see a cookie banner when you arrive to the website (something I'm particularly proud about!).

One question I get a lot is "why are you doing this for free?". The answer is simple: I have a passion for building and this is just another outlet for that passion. The other is building wooden train tracks with my kids, but that's another story!

My aim is to help as many people as possible with completing simple video tasks without the friction, and I hope to be able to do this with Oh So Video for as long as possible.

I hope you enjoy using the site as much as I have done creating it, and if you have any suggestions for new features I would love to hear them.

Thanks for reading and keep creating.
